Get Movin' on February 22

Warm up this February with a day of movement. We’re taking over campus with an all-day get up, get outside, and get moving extravaganza. Inspired by National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day, we are teaming up with our partners on campus to offer a full day of (mostly) FREE opportunities to “Play Hard. Get Fit. Live Well.” How will you celebrate?

Schedule of Events

  • ALL DAY: FREE Group Fitness Classes @ Natatorium

    Prepare to be inspired, energized, and motivated. From 7am to 7:30pm, we’re offering all of our Group Fitness classes at the Natatorium for free. Must be a student or Rec Sports member to participate.

  • 7am: #ActiveBadger Breakfast @ Gordon Avenue Market

    Get #ActiveBadger Day started off on the right fork with a balanced breakfast from Gordon Avenue Market. The menu  at Eggcetera will feature Mahnomin Wild Rice Porridge served with dried fruit and other toppings. Find yogurt and fresh fruit at Great Greens. Available until 10:30am.

  • 7:15am: Yoga & Yogurt @ Gordon Dining & Events Center

    You gotta Namaste before you parfait. Join us for a 45-minute flow followed by a yogurt parfait bar featuring Odyssey Greek Yogurt, KIND granola, and toppings provided by University Housing. Please bring your own towel or mat.

  • 11am: Group Fitness Class @ Grainger

    Join the resistance (band workout)! We’ll be at Grainger Hall, Room 3190, teaching you exercises that are perfect to do during the day at your desk. #ActiveBadgers at this activity will go home with their very own resistance band and snacks from KIND. Stick around for a salad lunch provided by Ian’s Pizza.

    Limited to 30 participants. Pre-registration is recommended.

  • 11:30am: #ActiveBadger Lunch @ Gordon Avenue Market

    Keep your body going throughout #ActiveBadger Day with a nutrient-dense grain bowl that might just become your go-to. Served at 1849 in the Gordon Avenue Market.

  • 12pm: Hip Hop Yoga @ Red Gym

    Bring your yoga mat and get ready to flow at the Red Gym! Class will run from 12 – 12:45pm.

  • Noon: 1/2-Off Climbing Membership (Day Pass) @ Union South

    Instead of climbing the class rank today, let’s belay on a budget. Sett Recreation at Union South will be offering half-price 1-Day Climbing Memberships and climbing shoe rentals all day. Grab a friend and get climbing.

  • 12pm: Bowling, Pool, Vive VR & Xbox @ Union South

    Today’s activities come in all types and sizes, and we think this one is sure to be a strike. Head down to the basement at Union South from 12pm – 12am and challenge friends to a frame or an entire game. Loser buys at the Daily Scoop!

  • 12pm: Hydration Station @ DoIT Tech Store - East Campus Mall

    Walk to the DoIT Tech Store location at East Campus Mall, mention you’re there for #ActiveBadger Day, and you’ll receive a free water bottle while supplies last! While you’re there, check out their selection of activity trackers including Fitbits and Apple Watches.

  • 12pm: Outdoor UW Rentals @ Memorial Union

    Let’s be real. We’re Wisconsinites, and a little February weather won’t stop us from getting out and exploring what our state has to offer. Outdoor UW offers snowshoes and trekking poles as well as all the camping gear you could ever want!

  • 2pm: Matrix Treadmill Sprint 8 Class @ Ogg Hall Fitness Center

    What if we told you you could get maximum results in minimum time? For real. It’s here, it’s called Sprint 8, and it’s available at Ogg Hall Fitness Center! Sprint 8 is an efficient, fat-burning HIIT workout that gives you a complete cardio exercise experience, including warm-up and cool-down, in just 20 minutes. Matrix, the company who started it all, will be at Ogg teaching you everything you need to know.

    Participants must be members of Rec Sports to access the Ogg Hall Fitness Center. Pre-registration is recommended.

  • 3:30pm: Yoga @ Nielsen Tennis Stadium

    Presented by American Family Insurance.

    Shift change, meet savasana. You’ve been running around all day at UW Hospital, so now take some time for yourself. We’re adding a little zen to a squash court and turning it into a pop-up yoga studio. Participants must show their Wiscard or UW Hospital ID at the main desk. Class will end at 4:15pm. Please bring your own yoga mat or towel.

    Pre-registration is recommended. Login using your NetID or create one by clicking “Sign Up Now”.

  • 5pm: #ActiveBadger Dinner @ Gordon Avenue Market

    You’ve been active all day. (Good work!) Fuel your body with a nutrient-dense grain bowl that might just become your go-to. Served at 1849 in the Gordon Avenue Market until 8:30pm.

  • 5pm: Log Rolling @ Natatorium

    Today’s not the day to be a bump on a log. Get to the Natatorium Diving Well and try one of the world’s most historic sports, key log rolling. Rec Sports staff will be there to help teach you how!

  • 5pm: Dance Party @ Lathrop Hall

    Calling all the Beliebers! Join Dance Elite, a UW Sport Club, and learn the dance for Justin Bieber’s “Sorry.” Meet at Lathrop Hall, Room 510. We’ll bring the tunes, you’ll leave with new moves.

  • 5pm: Climbing @ Union South

    Round out the day with a little climbing. Sett Recreation is offering half-price 1-day Climbing Memberships and climbing shoe rentals. The climbing wall is open from 5 – 9:30pm. Race you to the top!

  • 6pm: Men's Basketball vs. Northwestern Watch Party @ The Sett (Union South)

    Warm up your vocal chords, #ActiveBadgers! Catch the men’s basketball team take on the Northwestern Wildcats in a Big Ten match-up. You’ll have a chance to win prizes by playing Minute to Win It games during timeouts and halftime.

  • 6pm: CANCELED Snowshoe Trek and Bonfire with Outdoor UW @ Memorial Union

    Due to poor weather conditions, the snowshoe trek and bonfire to Picnic Point has been canceled.

  • 11:15pm: Late Night Skate @ Shell

    Finish off the first-ever #ActiveBadger Day with Late Night Skate at the Shell. Open from 11:15pm – 12:45am, this weekly Rec Sports event is sure to draw a crowd, so get there early! Bring your own skates, or rent from the Shell for $3. Rink fees are $4 for UW students. Free ‘za courtesy of Ian’s Pizza (while supplies last).
