Summer Camp

Ages 4-7

A recreational day camp featuring fun recreational, sport, and lifetime activities throughout the sessions. Our goal is to provide a supportive and enjoyable environment where learning and fun and go hand in hand. Specific sports instruction is not a goal of the camp. Special attention is paid to the age and skill level of each camper. Each session will also include a make and take age-appropriate craft.

Activities will focus on:
  • Movement (Red Light/Green Light, Line-Tag, Islands)
  • Throwing (Throwing for Points, Take out the Garbage, Alaskan Baseball)
  • Kicking (Squish the Bug, Kickball, Soccer)
  • Catching (Wonder-ball)
  • Noncompetitive sport and field games

Ages 8-13

A recreational day camp that will focus on exposing young men and women to a variety of activities stimulating the mind and body. Instruction in the basic skills of traditional and non-traditional sports will occur during all sessions. Special attention is paid to the age and skill level of each camper.

Activities will focus on:
  • Cooperative team building games
  • Supervised indoor and outdoor free-choice time
  • Competitive and non-competitive sports and field games
  • Leadership building activities

Camp Location

Your child’s day will begin and end at the Natatorium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Necessary Clothing

Participants should come to camp dressed for a full day of activity. We recommend outdoor activity clothes and activity shoes. Open-toed shoes will NOT be permitted. Campers should bring aforementioned items in a well-marked backpack or athletic bag.

T-shirts

Each child will receive one complimentary summer camp t-shirt as a keepsake for attending camp.

Food

Parents should pack a small snack for the morning and afternoon along with a lunch each day for their child. We cannot provide refrigeration, so please pack all food in an insulated lunch box and mark everything you bring with your child’s name. Absolutely no sharing of food is permitted among campers.

Electronics and other valuable items

Campers may bring cell phones as long as they are kept in their bags at all times and do not cause distractions during the day. Staff is permitted to confiscate any electronic devices deemed a distraction to planned activities. Rec Sports is also not responsible for lost, broken, or stolen items.

All emergencies can be communicated directly to the Camp Coordinator (608-262-9398) or to the UW Natatorium front desk (608-262-3742).

Conduct

Rec Sports reserves the right to dismiss a camper if their behavior jeopardizes the other campers’ safety and well-being.

Cancellation

Rec Sports reserves the right to cancel any session or modify activities due to under enrollment, facility problems, staff concerns, or circumstances beyond its control (i.e. rain, electrical outages). Parents will be notified immediately if a session is altered in any way. *If a participant must cancel a session, the session deposit will be forfeited. All cancellations must be made in writing.

Camp Staff

Our energetic and well-qualified staff are ready to spend an exciting summer with the campers. The staff is comprised of UW professionals, certified school teachers, and highly motivated college students. The camp is under the direction of Chad Schultz, who is a professional staff member at UW Recreational Sports.

Session Dates & Times

Weekly sessions start June 19th and each week will bring a new batch of games, crafts, and activities for your child to enjoy. The last day of camp will be August 25th. Note that camp will not be in session from July 3rd-7th to observe the holiday.

Description:
Registration is on a first come, first served basis. All children need to be toilet trained in order to enroll and stay in camp.  Parking information soon to follow.

Day of Play.

Description:

Day of Play is a community outreach initiative for elementary school students grades K - 5. This event shares the “Play Hard. Get Fit. Live Well.” mentality with school-age children of all skill levels. Join in a day of fun, movement-based activities led entirely by UW-Madison students!

Important Info:

  • Parents are required to stay through the duration of the visit.
  • Parents and families are encouraged to participate in this event, as well.
  • Younger siblings are welcome.

Badger Gamedays.

Jr. Bucky Saturdays

Description:

During select home football games, UW Recreational Sports will be providing recreational activities in a child care setting. The program is located at the UW Natatorium, which is on Observatory Drive, near the UW Hospital. Children four to twelve (4-12 as of Sept. 1st) years of age are welcome to attend Gameday Camp while their parents/guardians attend the Badger football game.

Badger Youth Gameday is administered by professional staff members of UW Recreational Sports and supported by highly motivated University students. Children are placed in activity areas according to their age. To ensure high quality and optimal supervision, the camp maintains a low child-to-staff ratio.

Pricing: $30 per child per game

Registration:

  • Registrations are processed on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Wisconsin Badger football tickets must be presented at check-in for each game to complete registration.
  • Children must be pre-registered to attend. No drop-in registrations will be accepted on game days.

Hours of Operation:

  • Games that this service will be offered are 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 2:30 pm kick-off times (no night games).
  • Program is also only guaranteed to run based off of staff availability.
  • Open to members and the general public.
