Major: Kinesiology-Athletic Training

The reason I became a personal trainer was that I enjoy working out on a daily basis. Becoming a personal trainer will help me become more knowledgeable on proper ways to train. Since I am majoring in athletic training I feel that this profession will correlate with my studies here at UW-Madison.

I was a swimming instructor for a year, played soccer all four years of high school, and I enjoy running, bike, and swimming.

I hope that I am either in personal training or athletic training after college. I hope one day I am experienced enough to work for a pro sport team.

Analisa Hernandez

Major: Rehabilitation Psychology
Training since August 2007

I became a personal trainer because I have always enjoyed working out and learning about fitness and health. I also have a passion for helping people, especially if I can provide them with a service and assist them in achieving their goals. As a female, I especially enjoy teaching other women proper techniques for strength training, getting rid of the myth that women who lift weights will just "bulk up". I also know how important it is to learn proper technique when working out; I love to teach people so they will be able to leave equipped with the knowledge and confidence to enter any gym and successfully complete a work out.

Nick Schmidt

ACE certified personal trainer; certified March 2008
CPR certified
Major: Kinesiology - Exercise and movement science; Psychology

I became a personal trainer because I myself enjoy living a fit lifestyle and relish the chance to teach and learn with others who want to do the same. Personal training will give me a great opportunity to learn more about fitness thus correlating with my major at UW while also allowing me to meet and work with great people.

I just recently became certified to train but I work out and have a vast knowledge of exercises because I like to experiment with different exercises in my own programs.

After my undergrad I plan to go to physical therapy school during which I still hope to be personal training.

Brandon Serwe

My name is Brandon and I have been training since August 2007. I am majoring in Kinesiology - Exercise and Movement Science and will be graduating in May 2009. When I am not working, I enjoy swimming, biking, running, climbing, swinging kettle-bells, and lifting. I am a member of the UW Triathlon Team and race with them during the summer. So to sum myself up, I am a fitness nut who likes to help others and make them smile.

Ashley SimonAshley Simon

ACE Certified Personal Trainer; August 2006
CPR Certified
Certified Group Fitness/Spin Instructor

Major: Kinesiology and Business Management

The reason I became a trainer was that health and fitness is a real passion for me from my own personal experiences and accomplishments. I want to help people learn the benefits of taking care of themselves and developing a healthy lifestyle.

My specialty and area of interest is strength training especially for women. I am also interested in circuit training and flexibility.

I have run numerous 5K marathons and completed a 100 mile bike ride two years ago. One of my goals is to complete a full marathon and triathlon by the time I am finished with school. I am also a certified group fitness instructor and taught my first cycling class this summer which was a lot of fun.

I want to continue with my undergrad into either physical therapy or chiropractic work, where I would combine my skills for rehabilitation and then further take a client from their rehabilitation stages into performance stages. Instead of just taking a patient and helping them walk or use their arms again, I would like to be able to help them achieve goals of running marathons or gaining strength after their injuries or accidents.

Mia Werner

Major: English and Women’s Studies with an emphasis in Pre-Medicine

I personally find great satisfaction from doing my daily workouts, and I am always amazed at what the human body can accomplish when pushed to limits. I became a personal trainer because I want people to be able to feel the same satisfaction from working out that I do. I believe that every single person can benefit form physical activity, both mentally and physically, and I want to help people find ways to exercise that are unique and enjoyable for them.

My areas of interest and specialties include cycling and running endurance training. I have run dozens of races, including marathons. Some day I would like to compete in an Ultra-Marathon and Iron Man Triathlon.
