Campus Project Impacts Availability of Rec Field Space and Sand Volleyball Courts
The project in question is the Campus Utility Corridor Project, and the East play field and Cole beach field directly East of the Natatorium have been designated by FP&M as staging and fill sites for this project. Therefore, the entire area will have to be vacated by May 1, 2005, which will also include the six sand volleyball courts east of the Nat. However, to ensure that we have sand courts available for play on the west side of campus, two sand volleyball courts will be layed out farwest and adjacent to the half court basketball courts located out by the farwest rec fields (U-Bay fields) on a temporary basis throughout the project and reconstruction phase. The installation of these two sand courts will take place as quickly as ground and weather conditions permit. Please note that all structured and informal programs normally scheduled for play East of the Nat have been moved to our farwest field area West of the Nielsen Tennis Stadium and North of the Waisman Center. With the anticipated completion of the project Fall of 2007, the campus will have a vastly improved raised rec field space that should no longer flood due to excessive rain fall and remain playable throughout the outdoor season.
The cooperation and patience of all students, faculty and staff who use the field and court space is greatly appreciated throughout the project and restoration period!
