Stop by any of our four facilities and fill out a membership form - Nat room 1180, SERF room 287, Shell at the ID counter, Nielsen at the reservation desk. Forms are not available online at this time.
Membership Fee payments can be made with cash, check or credit card (Visa or Master Card only), or by Payroll Deduction (see below for details and restrictions). Membership Fees are not pro-rated. Payment must be made at the time of purchase. See below for the fee table.

The purchase of a membership will enable faculty/staff or spouse/domestic partners to utilize all four Recreational Sports facilities - the Natatorium, SERF, Nielsen Tennis Stadium (additional court fees required), and the Camp Randall Sports Center. Please note that the purchase of a faculty/staff membership does not include free a spouse/domestic partner membership as a separate fee applies. Click here for more information. In addition, an exclusive spouse/domestic partner membership pass for the Nielsen Tennis Stadium is available.

Continued employment is required to use any recreation facility once fees have been paid. If your employment is terminated, you lose access and all fees are forfeited. DO NOT purchase an Annual or Summer membership if you only have an Academic Year or Semester appointment. Refunds will not be given (see below for more info on refunds). Limited Term Employees (LTE's) who have not worked (i.e. no hours entered into the payroll system) in the past 30 days will be dropped from the system.

Membership refunds will not be given if employment with UW-Madison is terminated. Refunds will only be given for a period of seven (7) days from the date of purchase or seven (7) days from which your membership becomes active, and refunds will be no greater than 50% of the membership fee that was paid. No refunds will be given for locker rentals.

UW-Madison regular and affiliate faculty and staff who have paid their Recreation Membership Fee and who also possess a valid UW-Madison ID card (Wiscard) may access all four of the Recreational facilities. *Printable Faculty/Staff Membership Information Sheet (PDF)*

Currently enrolled UW-Madison students pay the Recreation Fee through payment of the Segregated University Fee(s) when tuition is paid. In order to gain access to each Rec facility, students must present a valid UW-Madison I.D. card (Wiscard) upon entrance. The term Segregated University Fee(s) (SUF) describes charges in addition to instructional fees assessed to all students for services, programs and facilities that support the primary mission of the university. Segregated university fees may only be used to support student services activities as defined by the UW System Uniform Chart of Accounts and further limited by FAP - Student Services Funding (G15).
Student Summer Membership:
To participate in Recreational Sports programs and facilities this summer, students must have enrolled status in any of UW-Madison’s summer classes or purchase a $15 Student Summer Membership at any Recreational Sports office.
All students enrolled in UW-Madison Spring or Fall 2009 classes are eligible to purchase a Student Summer Membership. This includes study abroad students, spring graduates, incoming freshmen, and transfer students.
Students enrolled in any UW-Madison summer classes do not have to purchase a membership, because they are paying tuition, which includes segregated fees that supplement Recreational Sports.
All sales are final. Refunds will not be given to students who decide to enroll in summer classes after purchasing a summer membership.
*Student Summer Memberships are Valid: May 18 - August 23, 2009

UW-Madison Guest-Audit students do not pay segregated fees and therefore must pay the Recreation Membership Fee to use recreational facilities. Guest-audit students must possess a valid UW-Madison student photo ID (Wiscard) and enroll for the semester prior to purchasing a membership for that semester. Guest-Audit students are not eligible to purchase a membership that is valid beyond the semester in which they are enrolled, with the exception that Guest-Audit students enrolled in the spring semester may pay membership fees for both spring and summer.

University Special students enroll for regularly offered UW-Madison courses and typically pay the same per-credit cost as undergraduates. Since payment of seg fees is included in their tuition, an additional Membership fee is not required
Additional court fees are required for court time at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium for all current students and members.

UW-Madison faculty/staff may authorize payroll deduction for payment of their Annual or Academic Year Membership fee. The opportunity to sign up for payroll deduction for 2008-09 begins Monday, July 28 for renewals or Monday, August 18, 2008 for new members and ends Friday, October 17, 2008. Payroll deduction may not be used for Fall Semester, Spring Semester, or Summer Memberships.
Membership payments made through payroll deduction are split in half. For Classified staff, the first half will come from the Oct B check, the second half from the Nov B check. For Unclassified staff, the first half will be deducted from the October check, the second half from the November check. If an employee does not earn enough to cover the full payment with two checks, another deduction will be taken from either the next B check for classified or the next month's check for unclassified. Payroll Deduction forms can be found at any of our facilities, see above "How and where do I purchase a membership?".
Please note this is not a pre-tax payroll deduction.
Locker and towel sales, as well as Group Fitness stickers, may also be authorized for payroll deduction with the renewal or sale of a membership. Ask the staff for more details as the locker and Group Fitness sticker must follow the terms of your membership.
Payroll deduction is NOT available for UW-Hospital, UW Foundation, State Historical Society employees, Guest Students, or any spouse/domestic partners.

If you change your ID card number from a Social Security number to a 900 number you must contact the facility where you paid your membership fee so we can update our records. [SERF 262-4976; NAT 262-8809; SHELL 263-7650; NIELSEN 262-0413]. Please be prepared to provide your old ID number as well as your new ID number.
