Fitness Questions

How many calories do I burn in a fitness class?
There are a number of factors that contribute to caloric deficit from physical activity. They include; age, gender, fitness level, the type, duration, frequency and intensity of your workout as well as your nutritional intake for performance. Although there are devices that can measure this, look at the big picture. Making a commitment to regular physical activity now and for the rest of your life will have a big payout. Exercise is not a quick fix to overeating or poor nutrition. They work together to give you a healthy body, now and for the rest of your life.

What causes muscle burn?
That burning feeling has been blamed on lactic acid. Lactic acid does not exist as an acid in the body: it exists in another form called “lactate.” Current research suggests that the traditional correlation of lactate production with muscle fatigue and burn may be instead the accumulation of hydrogen ions, which are responsible for a decrease in ph levels.

Will taking core crunch class help me lose fat in my abdomen?
While it is physiologically impossible to “spot-reduce” adipose tissue from one particular area, specific skeletal muscles can get stronger. The core crunch classes are designed to strengthen and utilize not only the abdominal muscles, but the muscles of the back, hips and inner thighs. Since many core exercise integrate functional body movements, there is also a residual benefit to the chest, arms and legs.
