General Questions

How can I get a job with Rec Sports?
The positions that are currently hiring will have job applications online according to the position desired. We are always hiring intramural sports officials. Jobs are highly competitive though, some require special training (e.g., lifeguards) and some provide training (e.g., intramural sports officials). Each semester we hire building supervisors, clerical staff, fitness instructors, fitness consultants, intramural sports officials, and lifeguards.

My mom (dad, sister, brother, best friend, you fill in the blank) is here to visit me. Can she/he use the Rec Sports facilities? How much will it cost?
Yes! Guest passes cost $5.00 per day and must be purchased by a sponsor (person with a valid UW-ID). Guests must be at least 18 years old and show a valid photo ID.

Who is eligible to get a membership? How do I become a member?
Anyone with a valid UW-ID is eligible for membership as well as their spouse or domestic partner. Students do not have to pay membership fees because they pay for the facilities as a part of their segregated fees. Everyone else must pay the membership fee at the main office in one of the four facilities. A membership is valid for all four of our facilities. See our membership page for more information.

What restrictions apply to spouses and domestic partners?
They may not play intramural sports or club sports.

I work on campus and my spouse/domestic partner wants to become a member, but I don't. What are my options?
The faculty/staff member can sponsor his/her spouse/domestic partner without having a membership as long as the faculty/staff member's ID is valid.

Who is eligible to use the Recreation facilities?
All UW-Madison students who have paid segregated fees with tuition can access all facilities during the period for which the fee is paid. Students must present a current valid University ID card to gain access. Additional fees are required for court time at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, Open Hockey and Recreational Skating sessions held at the Camp Randall Sports Center (the Shell) Ice Rink, and participation in the Group Fitness classes.

UW-Madison regular and affiliate faculty, staff and UW-Madison Student Guest-auditors who have paid their Recreation Membership Fee and who also possess a valid UW-Madison ID card may access all of the Recreational facilities. Additional court fees are required for court time at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. An additional fitness fee is required to participate in all Group Fitness classes.

What kind of opportunities for participation do you offer?
The Division of Recreational Sports offers programs in four different indoor facilities and on 63 acres of outdoor field space. Pick up more detailed information and schedules at the facility of your choice. Club Sports provide a more in-depth sport experience that may include instruction, practice, and competition with other colleges and universities. Fitness programs include cardio, step, water and total body conditioning classes, and fitness training rooms at the Southeast Recreation Facility (SERF) and Natatorium/Gym Unit II (The Nat). Open Recreation (Informal Sports) is the opportunity to participate in unstructured physical activity such as lap swimming, weight lifting, or basketball. Instructional programs are offered to orient our new users and nonusers to the variety of fitness activities available to them. Intramural Sports and Special Events provide a variety of competitive sport.

The Division of Recreational Sports provides accessible equipment and reasonable accommodations for those people with disabilities that desire to utilize Recreational Sports managed facilities. Should you need assistance or information, please contact any of our facility offices and we can assist you in any way possible.

Do you offer outdoor recreation?
Please contact the Wisconsin Hoofers for information about outdoor recreation activities. The Hoofers is part of Athletics, not Recreational Sports.
